Model of August 2011:
Born to a strong and adventurous young woman of the Ashanti Tribe, Afua spent the first 8 years of her life in Agogo, Ghana. While her mother traveled to Europe, Afua lived the majority of her childhood with her grandmother and aunts, before she was taken to Germany. Afua followed the affairs of Supermodels such as Grace Jones, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Iman and many more as a young teenager.
At the age of 14, she was asked to take professional pictures for the family back home in Ghana. The photographer noticed her unique poses and hired her to become the company's advertising model. That is when Afua realized that she could become a model just like her icons.
Martina Schilling of Cover Face saw Afua's ads and asked her if she was interested in being shot for a local magazine. Afua graced two covers of the German L!VE magazine, April 1996 and November 2000, in collaboration with her. Thereafter, Afua was hired for different local designers, photographers and fashion shows. She attended beauty pageants and was quite successful. Even though she never won first place, she had an appreciation for being a part of it.
In 2003, Afua decided to move to the US. First, she was working as a promotional model for companies like Apple, Wrigley's, Sunsilk and Babe Ruth, just to name a few. It took some convincing of friends for her to start her journey from being an aspiring model to a professional model. Afua wanted to move to a bigger market. She signed with a Sports and Lifestyle agency, just two month after she relocated to Los Angeles. Under their management, she shot the 2010 Wilson Activewear catalogue. While updating her portfolio Afua got to shoot with world renown photographers like Sylvie Blum, Gregory Prescott, Bruce Talbot and many more. Through Sylvie Blum, however, Afua was able to get to a level of modeling she wouldn't have had imagined. She perfected her passion for posing and the art of modeling. Both developed a great friendship that led to countless shoots for publications for magazines like GQ Germany, Velvet Magazine and many more. Afua has been working independently for the past year and a half. She has been featured in several coffee table books as well as being published in magazines from around the world. Her latest project with Sylvie is a coffee table book, "Naked Beauty", that will be available worldwide this August. Afua has been seen in numerous fashion shows throughout Los Angeles and she just made her debut at the AFWNY, which is currently being featured on CNN's "Inside Africa" episode.
